In memory of
Nicholas GRESCHUK
Nicholas "Nick" Greschuk October 16, 1924 – January 9, 2017 After millions of miles travelled to the farm and hundreds of thousands of bushels harvested, we are saddened to share with you the passing of Nick Greschuk on January 9, 2017. Nick was born in the Elstow/Colonsay district on October 16, 1924. Being born into a farming family, he followed his true passion of farming for the rest of his life. Not a day went by that Dad did not check the weather in the morning and evening. He loved the land, the feel and the smell of the soil. Even at 92, he was at home on the combine this past harvest. In 1953, while working his land and in need of a glass of water, he came across the new school teacher, Eileen Bibbey at North Elstow School. Well, the rest they say is history. They were married on July 9, 1955. They produced bumper crops with Leanne, Cathy, Bob and Pat. The most important thing in Nick's life was family. Family gatherings for all occasions were high on the priority list, whether planned or spontaneous. Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling; however, it was the 28 consecutive years at Waskesiu for Thanksgiving celebrating the end of harvest that Dad looked forward to every year!!! The mischievous Bucko loved kids! He loved chasing them, giving "whisker rubs", teasing, giving rides on farm equipment, and feeding squirrels with grandkids and even started a full-blown neighbourhood water fight. One thing that everyone looked forward to, was seeing Mom and Dad hit the dance floor, especially Sunday mornings during Best by Request on the radio. Nick's favourite dance was the polka and he kept it up until his last days. And, there was nothing better than having a good old-time waltz with him. Nick loved all sports! He played ball for the Saskatoon Bombers, curled, followed the Saskatchewan Roughriders and had season tickets with Bob for the Saskatoon Blades since 1982. He cheered for all Canadian teams and always had a soft spot for the underdog. He was predeceased by his parents, Dmytro and Maria, bothers John, Bill and Mike and sister Annie. Nick was predeceased by his loving, amazing and incredible daughter Cathy Anderson on December 24, 2016. We can only imagine what the two of them are up to now!?!? He will be forever remembered and loved by his wife Eileen of 61 years; daughter Leanne (Daryl) Glover and granddaughter, Lindsey (Brent) Ganczar, great- granddaughter Stella Catherine and granddaughter Ashley (Henry) Cox; son-in-law Lorne Anderson, grandson Dean (Trish) Anderson and great-grandsons, Rhett and Brady; son Bob (Rhonda Odishaw), granddaughter Michelle (Mike) Schultz, great- granddaughters Roxanna, Katja and stepdaughter Brooke Schultz and granddaughter Danika (Dominic) Thibodeau; daughter Pat (Rick) Savoie and grandsons, Brennan and Kyle. He will also be remembered by his brother Alex Greschuk, sisters Polly O'Dare, Dora Churchill and Mary Dunlop, brother-in-law Frank Bibbey, and sisters-in-law Gwen (Craig) Mackay and Dot (Ed) LeGars. Although there are too many to individually mention, Nick loved his numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Nick was blessed to have many friends and acquaintances throughout his lifetime. We want to give a special thank you to dear friends, Al Daku and Ian McNaughton for their many kindnesses. We will be celebrating Nick's wonderful life on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairieland Park - Hall B (503 Ruth St. W.) We would like you to share your fondest memory of Dad with us at the celebration.
