In memory of
MARLENE McKENZIE
MARLENE PATRICIA McKENZIE (nee ROONEY) October 3, 1935 - April 1, 2017 Sadly Marlene passed away peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital, on April 1, 2017. She leaves behind her loving husband Duncan (Don), much loved son Marc William (Kerri), granddaughter Kate and grandson Luke. Sister Thelma and her husband Marv (Purdy) and sister-in-law Jess and her husband Ken (Martin) and many nieces and nephews. Marlene worked for the F.W. Woolworth's Company at the corner of Queen and Yonge as a window dresser through the 50s and 60s. She was a bowler, golfer, baker, cross stitcher and an avid bird watcher. Her most cherished role was that of Nana. Marlene's favourite time of year was Christmas. She chose this poem to let us know how she felt: "I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below, with tiny lights like Heavean's stars reflecting on the snow. The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tears, For I am spending Christmas up here this time of year. I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear, but the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up Here. I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring, for it's beyond description to hear the angels sing. I know how much you miss me; I see the pain within your hearts, but I am not so far away, we really aren't apart! So be happy for me dear ones, you know I hold you dear, And be glad that I am spending Christmas with our friends we miss so dear. I send you each a special gift, from my Heavenly Home above, I send to you each a memory of my undying love. After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold, It was always more important than the stories we were told. Please love and keep each other, as I had learned to do, for I can't count the blessings or love that I have for you. So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away the tears, Remember I am spending Christmas with the loved ones we held so dear." A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Palliative Care Unit at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
