PORTER, Margaret Jeanne (Sparks): September 14, 1921- January 5, 2017. Passed away peacefully in her 96th year at Moog & Friends Hospice House in Penticton, BC. Jeanne was born in Oshawa, ON to Albert and Margaret Sparks. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers William and Albert, and beloved husband Charles Frederick Porter. Jeanne is lovingly remembered by daughters Linda (George) Guernsey, Carol Millar, and Deborah (Barney) Porter Taylor, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Following graduation from high school, Jeanne joined the Canadian Women's Army Corp achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. At war's end in December 1945, Jeanne met returning soldier Charles Porter. They married in March 1946. Mom loved volunteering and was involved with the I.O.D.E. (Victoria and Summerland chapters), the Royal B.C. Museum, St. Luke's Anglican Church (Victoria), St. Stephen Anglican Church (Summerland), and their various organizations. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in Summerland. The Funeral Service is to be held at St. Stephen Anglican Church, 9311 Prairie Valley Rd., Summerland, BC on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Rick Paulin as officiant. The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Murali Venkataraman, the nurses at Penticton Regional Hospital, and especially the compassionate caregivers at Moog & Friends Hospice House.
