Joan Edith Chernes (nee Pritchard), who passed away on Thanksgiving Day, October 10th, 2016. It is with a heavy heart I must announce that Joanie has left on her final journey, a one way trip to Heaven. After a long and courageous battle with an unrelenting foe known only as ""The Big 'C'"", she passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. She was born in Wakefield, Quebec and spent her early childhood on the farm near there, moving to Ottawa when her father met a tragic early demise in a farming accident. The family then moved to Ottawa where she grew up, eventually settling in Kanata and had lived there for the past 30++ years. She was a brilliant business mind and spent over 20 years in charge of international sales and marketing at Atomic Energy of Canada, another 6 years at Med-Eng, again in international trade, and finished her career working for a well known local Law Firm. Predeceased by her parents Gibson and Marion (nee Moore) Pritchard, and her protective big brother Bruce, she is survived by her loving husband Bill Flannigan, her daughter Kelsey Chernes, her stepson Daniel Flannigan, sisters Doris Douma (Rudy) and Ruth Sparks (Ellery), nieces Stacy and Cara Douma and Kimberley Sparks. She was much loved and admired by Bill's extended family and will be sorely missed by all at Family Gatherings. She infected everyone with her sharp wit and keen sense of humour, and brightened any room she entered. She could make even the sourest of people laugh and always had a quick comeback. She was extremely helpful to those who needed and asked for assistance. She was a strong, independent, and multi-talented woman who loved the outdoors and wasn't afraid to take chances and tackle challenges. Godspeed Good Woman, and if they'll have me when my time comes, I will see you in Heaven. Love always and forever, Bill. P.S.: In lieu of flowers or cards, please make any donation to The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Program, directed to either The Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre or The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre at the General Campus on Smyth Road. A HUGE shout out to the staff at these 2 facilities, they are all compassionate Angels who go above and beyond to take wonderful care of their patients in a truly difficult atmosphere and through a very scary and trying time to patients and their families....... Kudos to them all!!!! P.P.S.: We are planning to have a ""Celebration of Life"" to be held Saturday November 19th anyone who knew Joan is welcome to attend, and if you wish, share any stories or anecdotes you may have about her. This is meant to be a happy celebration, so please be cheerful, this is not meant to be a sombre tear filled occasion.
