TAGGART, Helen December 19, 1929 - January 1, 2017 Comfortable and at peace, Mom slipped away at 10:40 pm on New Year`s Day. The youngest of four children, she grew up in St. Boniface, Manitoba. She had a happy, though frugal, Depression-era childhood and, as a teenager, very much enjoyed belonging to a church youth group. She remained friends with most of the members for the rest of her life. After graduation from grade 13, Mom worked at Great West Life for several years. In January 1954, she travelled to Vancouver to marry Bill, who was completing post-graduate work at UBC. By 1967, Bill and Helen had three children: Nancy, Roy and Ross. Mom tirelessly cooked and cleaned, baked and sewed - on occasion, she even built small pieces of furniture; she created family traditions and loved all of us without stint, always. When we were grown, Mom devoted herself to the Cordova Bay United Church community, most notably to the Healing Ministry. She also actively supported Our Place, Pacifica Housing and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She led a quiet life of loving service to others and we are eternally grateful for her. Predeceased by Bill, her husband of 55 years, and her beloved youngest son, Ross, she leaves Nancy and Roy (Sandra) as well as five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at Cordova Bay United Church at 11:00 am on January 20th.
