HEWITT, Ellen Delphine Dawn (nee Riley) June 26, 1926 - Paignton, Devon, United Kingdom January 4, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Dawn Hewitt, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, beloved wife of the late Lawrence Matthew Hewitt, RCAF, at the age of 90 years. Dawn was born in Devon, England in 1926. She met and married Larry during WWII in 1944 and followed him to Canada in 1946. During their marriage, the couple resided in Zweibrucken, Germany; Montreal, Quebec; Trenton, Belleville, CFB Borden, and Toronto, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Cremona and Calgary, Alberta. Over the years, Dawn held many jobs, including Bell Telephone as an operator and Zellers, Woolco, and Eaton's department stores. Dawn and Larry were members of the Dots and Dashers Square Dance Club and participated in the Opening Ceremonies of the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Dawn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matron of Unity Chapter No. 26 and Bow Valley Chapter No. 5, as well as Grand Chaplain of the Alberta Grand Order of the Eastern Star in 1998. Dawn was past president of Preceptory #33 Cypress Calgary and was active with the Pythian Sisters. Dawn was very active at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Calgary, where she sang in the choir and served in the Altar Guild. Eventually, Dawn became a resident of the George Boyack Nursing Home, where she was joined with her husband for a year before his passing in March of 2014. She continued to reside at the nursing home until her death; Many thanks to the staff of the George Boyack for their wonderful care of our mother, Dawn. Dawn leaves to mourn her two sons and one daughter-in-law, Stephen and Beverly, and Mark; sister-in-law, Vivian Price; niece and goddaughter, Patrice Barnes; granddaughter, Crista Hewitt; and many nieces and nephews. Dawn was predeceased by her husband, Larry; mother Ellen and father Joseph. Funeral Services will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church (1407 - 7th Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com .
