STRONG, Dorothy Nona 1921 - 2016 With profound sadness we announce that our mother, grandmother, cherished mentor and friend, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2016 at the age of 95. Dorothy "Dot" Strong is survived by her two sons, Michael and Mark, and beloved granddaughter Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her former husband Ken, loving brother Harry and sister-in-law, Edith. Dorothy lived a full and diverse life and her work included working as secretary to General George Pearkes during WWII including acting as chief cypher supervisor, then volunteering for countless organizations, including the North Shore Eagles, post retirement from her position at the HSBC (formerly Bank of BC). Sports enthusiast, avid gardener and excellent potter, when not dancing the night away to the music of Dal Richards at the Hotel Vancouver, she spent 15 years serving on the ladies auxiliary of the Burrard Yacht Club. She frequented Maui with her dear friend of 50 years, Nora Shoore, and loved her friends Irene Anderson, Louise, Shirley and Rose - to name but a few - and her love of Cuervo, Tiger, Snuggles and little Casey was immeasurable. Mother loved driving and was known to speed along the Upper Levels highway in her '66 Mustang and later, Mercury Monarch. Occasionally horrified, we observed her driving well into her nineties, but never to incur an accident. She would talk (a lot) to her many friends and family over the phone, and enjoyed watching her favorite tv shows: Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and The Bachelor, with cat Tawny at her side and cup of tea at hand. Every pursuit became secondary whenever her beloved Vancouver Canucks were playing; she their biggest fan. Our family would like to convey its deepest thanks to her GP, Dr. Masoud Shahrokhi of West Vancouver. A true Godsend, Dr. Shahrokhi delivered excellent care before and during our mother's twilight years. "One day, when I kick the bucket, you will miss your old mother!" was an often recited platitude. Well Mom, you finally did kick that bucket, and indeed we miss you more than words can describe. With our love forever: Mike, Mark, and Mackenzie. A celebration of our Mother's life shall be scheduled at a future date to be announced.
