STRILCHUK, Maj (Ret) Dennis A. CD January 25, 1956 – April 10, 2017 We are sad to announce the passing of Dennis on April 10, 2017, at Capital Care Lynnwood, Edmonton after a lengthy illness. Dennis is survived by his parents, Dennis Sr. and Rebecca; brother, Terry; nephew, Michael; and stepnieces, Patricia and Katrina. He will be missed by many uncles, aunts and numerous cousins as well as his two special military friends, Mike and Tom. Dennis graduated from O'Leary High School and joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 18. He was commissioned in the Canadian Army and served with the First and Third Regiments, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (Shilo, Manitoba and Lahr, West Germany) and in many bases across Canada including Army headquarters in Montreal, National Defense Headquarters in Ottawa, the Combat Training Centre and the Royal Canadian School of Artillery at Gagetown, NB, and as a United Nations Military observer in the Gaza Strip, Angola and Mozambique. He then returned to Edmonton where he was the second in command of the 20th Field regiment Royal Canadian Artillery. After retirement in 2006, he attended Grant MacEwan Community College where he graduated with a diploma as a Registered Social Worker. He was subsequently employed as a civilian counselor at the Canadian Forces Base where he provided counselling for service people suffering from PTSD and addictions problems until his own health issues necessitated his medical retirement. The family would like to extend their grateful thank you to Dr. Gerry Schwalfenberg and the staff at Capital Care Lynnwood for the kind and compassionate care and treatment extended to Dennis and his family. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Savio Roman Catholic Church, 14406 – 62 Street, NW, Edmonton with visitation one half hour prior to service. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery at 14611 Mark Messier Trail NW, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Capital Care Lynnwood, 8740 – 165 Street, NW, Edmonton, AB T5R 2R8 where Dennis received such loving care, or to Valour Place, 11109 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5G 0C6, or to the Military Family Fund, P.O.
