In memory of
DANIEL MEANEY With sadness we announce the death of our friend on January 4, 2017; his partner Maxine Hermolin was at his side. Dan leaves behind his brother John Meaney . Born on December 10, 1943 in New York City, Dan graduated from Rutgers University, came to Canada in the 1960s, did graduate work in Edmonton and earned his Masters in Environmental Studies at York University. He then moved to Winnipeg to work with the Manitoba NDP government. Later he worked in the field of affordable housing in Winnipeg and then Toronto. He was passionate about traditional Irish music and co-founded the Flying Cloud Folk Club. Dan identified as a socialist and supported the Canadian union movement and was known by his friends as a principled and generous person. Dan inherited his strong Irish identity from his mother and his trade union politics from his father. His friends are invited to honour Dan in the Irish tradition at the Tranzac Club, 292 Brunswick Ave., Toronto, 2-5 p.m., January 22nd. Memorial donations may be made to Toronto Irish Players PO Box 10613, Bloorcourt Post Office, Toronto M6H 4H9.
