THOMPSON, A. BRUCE W. July 27, 1936 - January 5, 2017 It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Thompson announce his passing on January 5, 2017. Bruce passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre where he had been residing the last few years of his life. Bruce is survived by son Ken (Brenda), Vernon B.C.; loving daughter by his bedside, Kelly Pagenkopf (Ralph Smith), Calgary, AB; grandaughters Ashley Kate and Ashlea; grandsons Brandon and Brady; sisters Elizabeth (Liz) Lindsay, On, and Anne Louise Stark (Ken), Calgary, AB; Patricia Omeara (Trevors wife), ON. Bruce was predeceased by his beautiful loving wife Sandra, "Sandy" Thompson (Powell) of 43 years in 2005; brother Dr. Trevor Thompson in 2010; sister Jane MacDonald in 2003; father, Trevor Thompson in 1982 and mother Mary Elizabeth Thompson 1976. Bruce was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He lived a very happy life. He and his late wife Sandy (nee Powell) enjoyed running their family business Watches 'n' More Promotional Products for many years in Airdrie, AB. He worked as a Bank Manager for RBC for 27 years then with CCH Canadian as a salesman. He was involved with his grandchildren & their activities. His granddaughter Ashley born with Down Syndrome became a great joy for Bruce, becoming involved with Ups & Downs, The Prep Program & Dream Take Flight (which he travelled annually with the charity for 6 years volunteering & accompanying children to Disneyland (& was there with Ashley). He attended the weekly Rotary Club Int. meetings, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce meetings and was always willing to lend a hand. He was loyal Calgary Hitmen Season Ticket Fan. Bruce was a dear friend and colleague of many throughout B.C., Alberta & Ontario. He will be deeply missed by so many. There will be a Celebration of Life for Bruce on January 20, 2017 at 11:30AM in Airdrie, 33 Big Hill Way Cemetery, at the Columbarium where his ashes will be placed beside the love of his life Sandy Thompson. The family will be releasing balloons, as they have done since mom passed in 2005. Please join us! There will be a Tea after the ceremony at Nose Creek Valley Museum, 1701 Main St. S.W. at 1:30 in Airdrie. Those who knew Bruce would agree that any Memorial Donations be made to Special Olympics Calgary at www.specialolympicscalgary.ca As his granddaughter Ashley said "He is now in Heaven with Gramma".
