Beatrice Allen
BEATRICE ALLEN We've lost our beloved Bea. Beatrice Eileen Allen, née Matton, at Wesburn Manor in Etobicoke. Beloved wife of the late Albert. Dearest Mum to Anthony and his wife Rachelle, and their son, Ethan; and Sharon and her husband Larry Finewax, and their children; Josh (Angela), Ari (Sarah), and Mia (Dylan). Predeceased by her siblings in England: Victor, Cyril and Joyce. She is remembered with love by her nieces and nephews. Our Bea lived a long, full life. Following World War II, our parents decided to leave England and start anew in Canada. Dad arrived first and found housing and employment. Mum followed with a year-old Tony in tow. It was a memorable trip; Mum was seasick for the entire journey. Didn't stop her from sailing back to England for visits, seasick all the way there and all the way back – she feared flying and flatly refused to try it. Finally, she worked up the courage to fly and an aviator was born aided by Gravol, her co-pilot. Mum was happiest surrounded by her children and grandchildren, most often, at the cottage. Berry picking was an art form for her. Pies, jams and blueberry pancakes filled our freezer and table and Mum grinned every time a grandchild asked for 'Nannie Jam' on toast. In 1989 our Dad passed away. Mum was inconsolable. She stated, memorably, that the next time she saw him she was going to kill him for leaving her so soon. No need to explain the obvious, she was just being Our Bea. Ten years ago, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and we watched our beloved mother slip away. It has been a heart wrenching decade. On October 15, 2016, finally freed from this soul-robbing disease, she left us and went searching for our father – Dad! Look out! Many thanks to the 2nd floor team at Wesburn Manor. Dear Violet cared for our mother with respect and a tenderness that touched all of us. We love you, Mum, and will miss you every day. Safe journey, dear Bea. Friends will be received at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. (between Islington and Kipling Aves.) on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 for a Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. Cremation. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
