In memory of
Anne Neidhardt
NEIDHARDT, Anne — On Monday evening, January 9, 2017, Anne died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Sunnybrook Hospital. She was the loving wife and lifelong partner of Wilf and the wonderful mother of Catherine and Peter. Anne was born in Mauchline, Scotland, on August 16, 1942, and came to Toronto with her parents Anne and Tom Kay in 1953. She graduated from Runnymede Collegiate in 1961 and received her nursing cap from the Toronto General Hospital in 1964. After working at TGH for a year, she enrolled in Western's School of Nursing and received her BSCN in 1967. It was at Western that she also met her future husband whom she married in 1968. By then Anne had joined the TGH teaching staff and spent several years enjoying her new role as a nursing instructor. After the birth of her children she spent several years at home, while at the same time returning to university to earn a BA degree from York University. However, it seemed only natural for her to eventually return to the ranks of her chosen profession and after 25 years at the North York General Hospital, she retired as the Program Director of the hospital's Genetics Program. In her retirement she became an amateur photographer, a member of several choirs and a passionate acrylic and watercolour painter who belonged to several painting organizations. She also enjoyed her volunteer role with the Aphasia Institute and the Parkinson Society. She loved to travel, read books and enjoyed all kinds of music and theatre and relished good food, good wine and good company. Besides her family and friends, she also cherished Jessie and D'Arcy – the two dogs which had come to be part of her life after she retired. Even when her illness struck less than a year ago, she never gave up and fought with grit and determination against the cancer that had struck her so suddenly. She will be much missed by brother-in-law Ulf and his wife Kay and her many good friends. In the hearts of her husband and children, she will always remain a remarkable wife and special mother. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life ceremony will follow in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations to any institution or charity of your choice would be much appreciated.
