In memory of
Adele BENNETT
BENNETT, Adele "Betsy" Wulsin 1930 - 2016 Betsy passed away peacefully on October 10, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Betsy had a stroke on her birthday, October 5, 2016 at the end of a wonderful day with her family. Betsy is survived by: her four sons, Wood, Peter, Frank, and Russell; her daughters-in- law Chantal, Stephanie, Heidi and Mary; her fourteen grandchildren; her two great- grandchildren and her sister Peggy. Born in Cincinnati, OH, Betsy grew up in the center of the city and would spend her summer vacations at the family summer-house on St. Joseph Island, on Lake Huron in Ontario. She graduated from Miss Porters School, Farmington, Connecticut in 1948 and then attended McGill University and Mills College. Betsy married the love of her life, Winslow Bennett in 1951 and enjoyed a full life with him raising children, adventuring in the outdoors, hiking in the Rockies, ranching near Twin Butte, Alberta, and travelling to all seven continents and far corners of the earth. Betsy had diverse passions and interests; she cared for her husband and family, she had a lifelong devotion to learning, she volunteered for the Elizabeth Fry Society, the Vancouver Symphony, and the Vancouver Aquarium. She was an Aquarium volunteer for 44 years and served on the board for 20 years as well as participating in Aquarium trips to the Arctic and Haida Gwaii. Her keen interest in marine biology and zoology led her on many trips to the Arctic and South pacific in an era before "eco-tourism" was born. She skied, biked, hiked and was passionate about any activity that took her into nature. Until the last day of her life, her favorite part of the day was the time she spent walking the forest trails around the UBC Endowment lands. Betsy struck a perfect balance of elegance, pride in her husband and family, graciousness, and generosity and was deeply loved by all her friends and family. A memorial service will be held at Shaughnessy Heights United Church Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either Covenant House (http:/ /www.covenanthousebc.org), the BC Cancer Foundation, the Vancouver Symphony Foundation or the charity of your choice. Betsy is remembered for her intense love for her family, community leadership, support for women in need, a life-long love and spiritual connection with nature, and her philanthropy.
