In memory of
HANS IBING Beloved by his family and admired by those who knew him, Hans enjoyed a colourful life of one hundred years. He was a man of many skills, talents and intelligence, warmhearted and broadminded. He was a proud and respected employee of the Toronto Star for twenty-four years where he was an expert in colour rotogravure printing. A veteran of the Spanish Civil War, his experience is recounted in the book, The Gallant Cause and his name commemorated with fellow volunteers on a memorial in Ottawa. He was a Canadian patriot who often said that coming to Canada from Germany in 1929, was the best thing he ever did. Hans was also a wonderful amateur painter, cook and gardener. Predeceased by Sara (Kasow), his wife of fourty-six years, he is sorely missed by his daughter Irma and son-in-law, Clifford Orchard; his dear grandchildren Lisa (David Goutor) and Mark (Jordan-na Belle-Isle); his adored great-granddaughter Madeleine; niece Wendy Greene (John Dupuis) and sons Sam and Daniel and the families of nieces and nephews in Germany. Hans passed away the morning of October 5, 2009, his family at his side. We would like to thank the staff at North York General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the United Way Toronto is appreciated. A private family service will be held.
