In memory of
On the morning of January 4, 2021 a limb has fallen from the family tree that says, "Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong." We the family of Birdie Anderson in her 87th year believe this is exactly what she is saying to us at this time. Birdie Anderson nee Gilkes was born April 3, 1934 on the 6th concession of Proton Township, the eldest of three children to the late Ernie and Mabel (nee Fluney) Gilkes. Beloved sister to Ivan(Betty), Doug-predeceased (Mary Anne) Gilkes and sister-in-law to Betty (Bill-predeceased) Hollingshead. She moved to Collingwood with her loving husband Bill Anderson of 67 years. She was the devoted mother of Randy, Rob(Vivian), Linda(Dave) Breuker and Richard (Lori). Her pride and joy was her 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Brad, James, Brayden, Leesa, Marley, Bryson, Nathan(Jenna), Graham and Renee. Aunt Birdie will be missed by many nieces and nephews. She dedicated many years of volunteering in the Collingwood community with Collingwood Minor Hockey, Connaught Home and School Association, Girl Guides, Blue Mountain Sno-Drifters and as a member of the All Saints Anglican Church. She always advocated for the under dog and for what was right! She worked at the Collingwood Peerless Textiles, Daals Seatbelts and finished her work life career as a Health Care Aide for Red Cross. Birdie and Bill enjoyed their retirement babysitting their grandkids, attending their sporting events, touring Ontario in their motorhome and winter vacations in Florida. The family wishes to thank the tireless homecare PSWs who cared for them at home especially Ellen and Valerie and for all the staff who cared for her this past year at Sunset Manor. Due to her wishes and COVID-19 she has been cremated and her celebration of life will be determined at a later time. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to your local Food Banks in her memory.
