In memory of
Paul David Wilkinson
WILKINSON, Paul David July 21, 1964 - Haliburton, Ontario January 8, 2017 - Calgary, Alberta It was with sadness that friends and family of Paul "Smokey" Wilkinson learned he died peacefully near the community of Hillhurst in Calgary; where the streets, alleys and river bank had been his chosen home for many years. Paul was predeceased by his mother, Mary McCrea (McDuff), and father, Wayne Walter Wilkinson. He is survived by his daughter, Zana; and siblings Carolyn Whitmee (McCrea), Adrienne Read (McCrea), Doug McCrea and Reggie McCrea; uncle, Keith Wilkinson; and other extended family in Ontario. His wide circle of friends and acquaintances from the streets of Hillhurst and the church he attended most Sundays will fondly remember Paul. Throughout his journey living with addictions and challenging lifestyle, he was known for his generosity of spirit, random acts of kindness and sharing of his limited financial resources. He was often the first to step up wherever he could to support his church, local and broader community, friends and those who could not help themselves. Paul expressed gratitude for the many individuals and organizations that helped him in various ways. In particular, Hillhurst United Church, Calgary Legal Guidance, Alpha House DOAP Team, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department Station 6, Alberta Health Services, local Kensington businesses and many others who, without judgment, extended a helping hand in friendship, material or moral support. He also spoke of fond memories reconnecting with family in Ontario during recent visits and their on-going offers of support. A memorial service to remember Paul will be held Friday, February 3, 2017 at 12:00pm at Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensington Close NW, Calgary. For any willing and able, donations c/o Hillhurst United Church, to be used for community outreach and support services, will be gratefully accepted in Paul's name.
