In memory of
Phyllis WILSON
WILSON, Phyllis Florence (Hansch) November 7, 1929 - February 12, 2017 On Sunday, February 12, 2017, Phyllis passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years surrounded by all of her children. Phyllis was born and raised in Edmonton's Old Strathcona. She often shared with her family memories of happy times spent at Holy Trinity Church, The Princess Theatre and The Strathcona Library. Mom enjoyed her sports, especially bowling, curling, golf and hockey. Mom spent a summer caddying with her friends at The Mayfair. She was an avid Oilers fan and attended numerous games with her good friend Joyce. She and Joyce spent many mornings walking McKinnon Ravine, and in the winter months, they would walk in West Edmonton Mall. Phyllis was a stay at home Mom, who was always supportive of us and spoke the truth. Growing up she taught us to 'put yourself in other people's shoes' and when something didn't go our way, we were told to remember that 'there was always someone worse off'. Anything, no matter how big, could be handled with faith, friends, family and humour. Mom's faith was important to her from an early age. In fact, it was at All Saints Cathedral in Edmonton where she met and married our Dad. Growing up without sisters, Phyllis had a large and special circle of girlfriends. Whether it was 'The City Girls', who she shared a bond with for 65+ years, the Grovenor Bridge Ladies that started with a group of young moms supporting each other, or the St. Peter's ACW, each group and each friendship was important to her. Mom not only taught us how to live with grace, but during these last few months, she demonstrated to all of us how to die with grace. We are thankful for the many hours we have shared with Mom, talking, laughing and sometimes sitting in silence (usually because she told us, 'Oh balls, stop talking!'). Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Bruce, brother Ralph and parents Clayton and Catherine. She will be missed by her 'funny and loving children' (her words not ours), Richard, Geoffrey (Geraldine), Megan (Ben) Land, and Janis (Kevin) McDowell. Left with heavy hearts are her six grandchildren, Victoria, Julia, Cameron, Renee, Lauren and Elly, whom she enjoyed laughing and spending time with. At Phyllis' request there will not be a funeral. A private family service will be held at a later date. Heartfelt thanks go out to all of the incredible staff, including the Physio Girls in 5 east at the Lois Hole Hospital and the 'second to none' staff at the Norwood Palliative Care. Each one of you were a blessing to our Mom and to our families. If so desired, donations may be made in Mom's memory to, Norwood Palliative Foundation, 10410 - 111 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5G 3A2.
