In memory of
Myrtle Pennock August 23, 1922 - February 11, 2017 Myrt's early years were spent on a farm near Hodgeville Saskatchewan with her parents Charlotte and Fred Muckelt and her brother Keith. In 1943 Myrt worked with the Department of Munitions and Supply in Ottawa. Then in early 1944 Myrt volunteered for the Women's Division of the RCAF and was posted to Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Claresholm, Alberta, Pennfield Ridge airbase near Moncton and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. After her discharge in late 1945 she met John Pennock in 1946/7 - he was a glamorous player for the Regina Roughriders - and they moved to Montreal where John went to university at McGill. Following teaching training in Manitoba they moved to Saskatoon and then to Stoney Creek and Wasaga Beach in Ontario. After John's retirement in the early 1980s Myrt and John travelled very widely, including a year teaching English in Japan followed by a leisurely around-the-world trip. They both loved hiking in the Yorkshire Dales and the Canadian Rockies, and spent many happy months in Greece, Portugal and, in later years, Victoria. They moved to Saskatoon in 2000, where John died in 2005. Her last few years were increasingly difficult, but her innate kindness to others remained until the end. Myrt had three children - her daughter Jorja, who predeceased her in November 2016, and her two sons Mike (Martha) and Dan (Lea). She was a wonderful and much-loved grandparent of Julie, Alison, Luke, Owen, Jennifer, Matt, Nathan and Benny and great-grandmother to Jasmine, Gabe, Erika, Karina and Tessa.
