In memory of
B. Joyce (Lytton) Wheeler
Beatrice Joyce Wheeler passed away peacefully in her sleep at Crofton Manor in Vancouver, B.C. after enjoying Christmas and New Years with family. Predeceased by husband, Alden Dodge Wheeler in 2010, her father Claude Lytton in 1948, mother Ethel (nee Bradshaw) in 1950, all in Victoria. Joyce the youngest of five was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald and Brian, and sister Evelyn Wenman. She will be lovingly remembered by brother Roger Lytton, son John and daughter-in-law Shannon, and grandsons, David and Sean. Joyce was born and raised in Victoria. She attended St. Margaret's School, Victoria College and UBC until her father died. She was married in 1950 in Victoria and began a nomadic life with Alden who served with the Canadian Air Force at seven locations. In 1972, she insisted they return to Victoria where she worked as a medical receptionist for over a decade. After retiring, Joyce continued her education taking History courses at UVic. She and Alden spent every summer at the Wheeler family cottage in Newcastle, Ontario until 2007 and travelled often with friends. Joyce was always active as a volunteer (officers' wives were not expected to work!) with many organizations including the Victoria Art Gallery, Craigdarroch Castle and Saanich Probus Club. Despite her weakening health and visits to hospital, she retained to the end her sharp sense of humour, politeness and stubbornness. However this was secondary to her always taking a real interest in others and being charitable. A heartfelt thank you to nephews, Jim and John Wenman, friend Leanne Hawkins and Dr. David Woodley for their care and support as Joyce coped for years with her heart condition at her home in Victoria, B.C. A Memorial Service and Interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Rd., Victoria B.C. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice, as Joyce would.
