In memory of
Henry Anthony BAMBROUGH
BAMBROUGH, Henry Anthony, P. Eng February 24, 1924 - October 6, 2016 Anthony (Tony) Bambrough passed away October 6, 2016 at age 92, at the Peter D. Clark Centre with his daughter Clare at his side. Tony was born in Sunderland, England. His working life began as an apprentice in the Sunderland shipyard where his father was foreman. He left the apprenticeship for the British Royal Navy when he was called up for service in WWII. He returned to the shipyard after the war and began studying mechanical engineering in the evening as a part-time student. His academic prowess awarded him a scholarship that led to full time study and his degree from Durham University. As an engineer he went to work for Rolls Royce and Atomic Energy in England. He designed wind tunnels in Toronto, taught engineering at a college in Kirkland Lake and before retirement worked in Ottawa for Environment Canada in air pollution control. Tony met his late wife Helga in Montreal, and together they enjoyed fifty-seven years of marriage and many adventures both before and after retirement. He was a man of many talents, a portrait artist, a poet, a raconteur, a provocateur and a handyman to name a few. He fought as best as he could against the ravages of Alzheimer's and mini strokes for the last years of his life. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Clare, his sister Olwen, stepdaughter Marion Lavigne and grandchildren Terry (Debbie) and Sandra (Rene) Roquefort and friend Bruce Enstone. Many thanks to the friends and neighbours, and the caregivers Karen Prefontaine and Salome Johnson, and the staff at Willow House, Peter D Clark Centre for their kindness and care of Tony in his illness. A funeral service will be held at All Saint's Anglican Church Westboro, 347 Richmond Road, Ottawa on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. In remembrance of Tony, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society. Condolences, donations and tributes can be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
